February’s New England Tri Fit Member Profile spotlight is on Meghan F. Meghan was a competitive swimmer in high school and a champion tobogganer as a kid, so she had the advantage of speed on water and land when she entered the world of triathlon. It was no surprise, then, that in her very first Olympic distance race she finished second in her age group. When she’s not staying in shape by training and running after her two boys, she’s putting in miles as a buyer for TJMaxx and Marshalls. Now we know why she’s always so fashionably dressed when we see her out in the “real” world.
What is your Athletic Background? I was a competitive swimmer throughout high school.
When and Why did you Start Training for Triathlons? Three years ago I wanted to get in shape and do something for myself after having 2 little boys.
What is your Most Memorable/Favorite Race and Why? Definitely the Pumpkinman in Maine. It was my first Olympic triathlon in 2018 and my parents and boys were there to cheer me on. It was a wonderful course and feast after. Plus, I placed 2nd in my Age Group so that was a nice surprise. I competed again last year and unfortunately that was the last time they are offering the Olympic distance.
What Races are you excited for in the 2020 Season? I’ll let you know when I sign up. I’m more of a last minute enterer once we know our summer schedule. I try to do 3 races a summer. Definitely Sharon, but not sure of the others.
What do you do When You are Not Tri-ing? Shopping – I’m a buyer for TJMaxx and Marshalls so I get to buy ladies clothes and travel to NYC, CA and Italy every year.
What is your Favorite Place to Run/Ride? With my Dad along coastal ME and NH.
What Kind of “Off Season” Training do you do? Not much, and that’s why I like Triathlons, because you have some downtime. I occasionally run, ride my bike on the trainer and I started Pilates this winter.
What is a Fun Fact about you? I competed in the National Toboggan Championships when I was a kid!
Can you Share a Triathlon Tip? Put bright colored rag/sock on the end of your bike rack so its easy to find your way around transition.
What do you love best about being a NETF Club Member? Everyone is so nice and helpful, especially as I was learning to ride a road bike.
