August’s New England Tri Fit Member Profile spotlight is on Meghan D-M. Meghan is proof that you don’t have to come from an athletic background to be a triathlete. You just have to love the sport, train regardless of your speed, and have fun with it. Meghan has had so much fun doing it these last few years that she and her training partner became besties and she even raced in a relay while she was pregnant.
What is your Athletic Background? I honestly don’t have much of an athletic background! I was big into dance, musical theater and singing. I did a few 5Ks here and there, but mainly cheered on my husband Michael!
When and Why did you Start Training for Triathlons? My coworker and I made it our New Years fitness goal to do the Y Tri in 2016. I really lucked out because I found that I love triathlon and my coworker became my best friend!
What is your Most Memorable/Favorite Race and Why? I have two. My first tri, The Y Tri in 2016, because my friend and I accomplished our goal together. My second is the Sharon Tri 2017, where I participated in a relay with my husband. We had so much fun racing together (and little did we know that I was pregnant at the time too!).
What Races are you Excited for in the 2019 Season? I’m excited for Sharon because we’re going to have such a big group there volunteering and racing.
What do you do When You are Not Tri-ing? When I’m not Tri-ing I’m either working as a Behavior Analyst for Norwood Public Schools or I’m spending time with my kids, Mackenzie and Ben.
What is your Favorite Place to Run/Ride? Favorite ride is the old bike course of the Tri Mom Rhode Warrior 70.3 starting in Westerly, RI. Favorite run is in and around Newport, RI.
What Kind of “Off Season” Training do you do? I take classes at the Y, work on strength, and swim.
What is a Fun Fact about you? I’ve always loved swimming. I quit the swim team because my vision was so bad I couldn’t see where I was going! I didn’t get contacts until I was older.
Can you Share a Triathlon Tip? That getting out there and training, no matter how fast or slow, is better than staying home. I’ve never regretted a workout, but I’ve regretted skipping one!
What do you love best about being a NETF Club Member? I love the friendships I’ve found through the club.
