Member Profile – Andrea

It’s only fitting that our renewal of the monthly member profiles begins with Andrea. Andrea is one of the New England Tri Fit’s Founding Members, and before that held a leadership in the club when it was affiliated with the Hockomock Y. Andrea is one of those people who always has a welcoming smile on her face and encouraging words on her lips, and its fun to learn a little more about her through January’s Member Spotlight.

What is your Athletic Background? I didn’t play any sports in high school or college. When I ran out of money in my sophomore year of college, I joined Army ROTC so I could get a scholarship. I arrived at basic training and felt like I had some hidden gene for running that was suddenly turned on. I am probably the only person who had FUN in basic training. I would go for a run at the end of a long training day! I never really stopped running and working out after that.

When and Why did you Start Training for Triathlons? In my 30s, after running a few marathons, I got into triathlons for the cross training.

What is your Most Memorable/Favorite Race and Why? There are so many! Can’t choose!

What Races are you Excited for this Season? I don’t have any plans. I will decide last minute if I find a race that fits into the schedule. I often pick races that other people are doing, just to join the fun.

What do you do When You are Not Tri-ing? Working at the Y, spending time with my family, and planning my next workout.

What is your Favorite Place to Run/Ride? Favorite place to run… Anywhere that makes me feel fast. Favorite place to ride…the club rides we do through Rehoboth and Seekonk.

What Kind of “Off Season” Training do you do? I haven’t had a race season or off season in a few years. I like to consistently practice yoga and do strength training throughout the year.

What is a Fun Fact about you? I am an airborne school graduate, jumped out of a plane 5 times (in my very young 20s).

Can you Share a Triathlon Tip? Try not wearing socks during a Tri, saves transition time!

What do you love best about being a NETF Club Member? All the wonderful people I’m honored to call my friends.
